Air pollution leads to five premature deaths a week in Bristol

PM2.5 are tiny particles released mainly by wood smoke, coal burning, and industrial combustion. They can lodge in people’s lungs and cause very serious health conditions.
In cities, NO2 comes mainly from older polluting vehicles.
The researchers found that, together, high levels of PM2.5 and NO2 contribute to up to 260 premature deaths each year in Bristol, according to a report released today (November 18).

New survey reveals 20.3 million people in the UK have a scar
The Scar Free Foundation is the only medical research charity which focuses solely on scarring, and today [20 November] announced plans to establish the world’s largest cohort of children with burns, in partnership with University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (UH Bristol). The charity, along with world leading clinicians and scientists, is now calling on government and other major funders to further invest in developing effective new treatments to reduce - and eventually eliminate - scarring from burn injuries, which affects four million people in the Western world.
According to the survey commissioned by The Scar Free Foundation, despite over a third (38 per cent) of the UK population having a scar, it is often a 'hidden issue'. Three times as many survey respondents feel we don't talk enough about the impact of scarring as a society as those who think we do – the reasons given range from it being seen as a 'taboo' and 'too personal' to 'being embarrassed' about the subject.
